Default John Reischman & the Jaybirds - On That Other Green Shore

John Reischman & the Jaybirds have a brand new album out thought we'd share, including a streaming MP3 original instrumental we'll also share on the Cafe MP3 page. John's original composition "Daylighting the Creek" follows which we should point out includes the band's new guitar player, Patrick Sauber.

Another tremendous tune from John. Should have my CD in a couple days. Great to have this preview tune.

We picked several of his tunes in the campground at the last fest I attended: Salt Spring, Indiana Firefly, The North Shore, and A Prairie Jewel.

Nice work! The title comes from the spiritual, Can't You Hear the Lambs a-Cryin'.

Been listening to this CD for the past week. John's playing is as lyrical, fluid and musical as ever, even when he dips into the Monroe style as he does frequently in on this album. It's great to hear him bring his take to the Monroe style. The tone we love is present everywhere. There are several great instrumentals on the CD including one named "Red Diamond" and I think we can be fairly sure of the inspiration for that one. I think "Daylighting the Creek" will be one you start hearing in the campgound. Very catchy melody.

To my ear, the Jaybirds have one of the best total band sounds out there today. The harmonies blend so nicely, the instruments support each other and vocalist instead of stepping on them. They have a sound that's rooted in old time music sometimes. It's just very cohesive--no one overplays.

Some original songs/tunes, some trad/standards, and one surprising and tasteful Beatles cover make this a very enjoyable album. If you don't have, get it.
