    Default Rare 1921 - 1924 Gibson A2Z Mandolin?

    Hey Folks,

This popped up on the local Craigslist equivalent. No idea of its authenticity nor any connection to the seller. Frankly, I wouldn't know the real deal from a counterfeit.

    Here's a link: Rare 1921 - 1924 Gibson A2Z Mandolin

Would be curious to hear what some of the Cafι experts think.

Photos look like the real deal. There's a tuner bushing gone, but that's easily replaced. Ad copy is a little gushy and breathless but more or less accurate.

I didn't understand the description....."A2Z is a rare item this side of the Atlantic" ??? Were they all exported? I thought it was in Utah?

Looks good but the asking price is about the same as most vintage retail stores. Still they are nice mandolins. Not sure the A2Z's actually had fancier woods than same era A2's. In fact, were both models made simultaneously?

Maybe she boosted some ad copy from a UK seller?

    ...

Yeah, that's it ... most of the description is lifted from a three-year-old Mando Hangout ad placed by someone in the UK:

I always get irked when people steal my copyright-protected content from my website to advertise their mandolins for sale, but unless I'm willing to retain an aggressive intellectual-property lawyer, there probably isn't much I can do about it.

I don't suppose Lucian would work on contingency?

    Nice detective work there Martin.
I guess it brings up some questions.
Is this mandolin the same one as in the UK ad and has travelled from the UK to Utah or is it just the text/description that got boosted?
I guess the question is,,, is that big brown comfy chair in the UK, or is it in Utah?

Watch ads with borrowed photos and text. Could be bait...not in possession of the seller. I don't think I would buy this one without seeing it in person.

It's on Craigslist now as well. But yeah, caution would be appropriate.

When I see ads with copy that I wrote, I usually assume the advertiser does have one of the instruments in question and was just too lazy to write a description. Heck, there is an ad in the Classifieds right now with a photo I strongly suspect was lifted from my website (but since I didn't take that photo, it isn't my copyright being infringed), and I don't doubt that the advertiser actually does possess what the photo depicts.

Of course, if someone posts a photo of an instrument that I happen to know is still sitting in my instrument room, that's a different matter.
