    Default McClanhan Trinity F5 #735

    Howdy folks,
I don't post on here much if ever at all but with the acquisition of my latest mandolin I though I would for a change. I just received the McClanahan Trinity model F5 on Monday and am extremely happy with it. The woods, fit and finish, really everything about it is great. My last two mandolins were a Clark F5 and a Altman Loar model. I really didn't think I'd be anymore happier with this McClanahan but I went for it anyway and am glad I did. For a new mandolin the tone is very mature. Jonathan made a video of the amazing Mark McGlashan playing it before he sent it out. Check it out here https://youtu.be/lhxdYrhP8WQ

It sounds great! Really has that classic dry tone to my ear, or at least as well as you can tell from an internet video. And that picking is blazing fast too! Congrats on the new mandolin, I bet it's a joy to play.

Every time I see a video like that, I wish there's a builder that could at least partially pack that picking' into the mandolin, so I could get it when the mandolin arrives... I know most all the notes are in there somewhere - it's just a matter of my finding them!

Awesome mandolin, but is it cheating to have a ringer do your demo video? I'm hosting a John Reischman concert next month, I'll have him do the demo video for my new Mando!

Thanks everybody! It is a great mandolin and I'm happy to have it. As for cheating I don't know what you're talking about. Jonathan is friends with Mark, he visits and plays most of the mandolins he builds to help show what they can do. Please do have Reischman play your mandolin I'd love to hear him play it. I'd make a video myself but it's in the shop getting set up to my liking but please feel free to watch it again and laugh about it all you want bud.

Don't be sore, I was just poking. Truly a nice new mandolin you've acquired! Enjoy. I hope to get to pick with John! He's traveling through on his way to the Montana fiddle camp with Greg Blake, Blain Sprouse, and a Isaac Calendar. I can't go to the camp, sounds like a phenomenal group of teachers this year.

Oh I'm not sore just poking back. Mark does a bunch of videos for Carter vintage, what a great player. Seriously though have Reischman make a video with your new mandolin. I'm not the only one that would like to see and hear that. Congrats on your new instrument Matt.

I think that Jonathan's mandolins are beginning to be recognised for what they are - truly excellent instruments. He's made a few for some well known players & they've all sounded as good as it gets. His craftsmanship was something i picked up of a few years back,in a similar way that i picked up on the skills of Tom Ellis close to 30 years ago. I couldn't imagine mandolins with so much consumate skill going into them, sounding anything less than superb - it seems that they do !,

Ya I think McClanahan is the next Ellis, Gilchrist, Nugget... He truly cares about the tone and workmanship.

I agree! Great sounding horn! His mandolins sure look and sound great. I don't agree on his theory of recarving the tops and backs from the topside and complete refinish of old Gibson's. You can do it from the inside and still have great results

After having the McClanahan for a week now, I can say it really has it all, tone, volume, playability. I love the neck shape. It's a keeper! Taking it to get it set up to my liking this week. I'll bring the action up a little and a few other little things tweaked. I can only imagine how it's going to sound in a year. Jonathan is a very nice guy that is very passionate about his work. He called yesterday just to make sure I'm happy with it. Great guy to work with and talk to if anyone is looking to have a mandolin built.
