Default "Lift Thine Eyes" (Mendelssohn), mandolin trio

Felix Mendelssohn (1809-1847): "Lift Thine Eyes" ("Hebe deine Augen auf zu den Bergen")
From the oratorio "Elijah" ("Elias"), 1846, Op. 70, MWV A 25

This is a song from Mendelssohn's oratorio "Elijah", originally a trio for three women's voices (SSA), which I am playing as a mandolin trio. I learned this piece from Evelyn Tiffany-Castiglioni's forthcoming ebook "Evelyn's Big Book for Mandolins for the Year 2017", and it's also at the Choral Public Domain Library at:

I was playing around with the use of tremolo, but in the end decided it works best all single-stroke.

    1890s Umberto Ceccherini mandolin
    René Gérôme "Gélas" mandolin

FYI - There is a "Evelyn's Big Book for Mandolins for the Year 2015" available at amazon.com. I trust Martin will let us know when the 2017 edition is published.

No doubt Evelyn will make an announcement herself when she's ready. I very much recommend the 2015 book as a happy player of her arrangements, but have no involvement with the books other than that Evelyn has kindly let me test drive some of the tunes in the forthcoming volume (all new tunes, not an updated edition of the old book).

Considering the sheer number of tunes in each book, the ebook price on Amazon is fabulous value and I recommend them to folky and classical players alike.

The link to the 2015 book is (NFI):

Nice tune and playing, Martin. Would a mandola have fit for the alto part?

Thanks, Mike. Either mandolin or mandola will work fine -- the range of the alto part is just over one octave (from a to b') so it's entirely in first position on the G, D and A strings of either instrument.

    Dear Mandolin Friends,

I am happy to announce that my new book is available now from Amazon at https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_n...yn+castiglioni. I placed an announcement in the Classifieds and hope to have an image of the book soon.

Some of the scores are freely available from the 3 Winter's Tale collections that I have posted in the Celtic Music Forum. Here is the link to Winter's Tale 3:

Most especially check out An Paistin Fionn, which is my favorite tune of the year, and is in my new book. https://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/s...=1#post1485456

If there are special requests, such as parts scored for mandola or mandocello, please feel free to pm me.
    Best wishes,
    Evelyn
