Default Shameless Plug for Vernon Hughes

A few months back I got my life time mandolin, a 1979 Nugget. The first half dozen frets needed to be replaced and so I asked for help on the Cafe finding a luthier close by. Vernon Hughes in Timberville, VA turned out to be the one. Just got the mandolin back yesterday from Vernon and he did a great job. Action was right on, fretwork clean and detailed well, and the mandolin plays so much more responsively. Vernon is a great guy to do the job, I would highly recommend him. By the way he makes some fine mandolins as well and is just a good guy to know. NFI

Can I ask what wire he used?

Vernon is a fine mandolin picker, too.

I am not knowledgeable about fret wire gauge other than to say it was small wire to match the existing frets.
