Hobgoblin in Leeds told me it was worth 1200 new (I thought I got a good second hand price)

I've been a mandolin expert for 2 days now ;-) Would be interested to know what other mandolin players would have paid for it....

Roll on Thursday when he gets his birthday present (It is hiding in a suitcase in it's hard case at the moment)

Jane, what an awesome gift! Whatever you paid for it, I think it's worth it! My wife bought me a mandolin for our 10th anniversary. Best gift ever!

Nice! How thoughtful, my hubby just bought me a mandolin for my birthday and I was so surprised and touched by his thoughtfulness. Do let us know how it goes on Thursday.

Jimmy Moon has been building mandolins for years and they are really nicely done. Very well suited to 'general folk' and Celtic styles in particular. A very nice gift indeed.

I've had that exact model for 4 years now. Within Irish trad circles it certainly get a lot of attention. I love it and when I had a question about it Jimmy Moon himself took he time to talk to me on the phone. Great mandolin and great service from everyone in Moon Guitars.

Around Ireland I've seen some of the used standard models for sale but never seen a used A2 available so no idea on the price.

    Great idea
Forsyths in Manchester stock a pretty decent range of mandolins including Eastman, Moon, Seagul and Breedlove including a few in the region of 500. Depending on what type of music he likes playing could influence what type of mandolin (e.g. for "celtic" music the auden for 500 could be a good bet, for bluegrass and more general types of music the eastman MD305 for 529).

    Here is a link https://www.forsyths.co.uk/instruments/32095-mandolin

    Good luck

Sorry, just seen that you've bought one, looks like you got a good deal, glad that he loves it
