    Default snark picks-anyone tried these

I received two free ones, one in the celluloid and one in the tortoise. I really like these-to my ears, a full deep tone. sound better than any pick I have on hand-and I have some good ones($$)

both are .7, I think i'll order the sets so I can play around with thickness and reshape the tips a little

Seems silly to cut them off at 1mm. If they ever venture up to at least 1.2, preferably 1.4 or 1.5, I'll try them.

I just got a new tuner and it had one of the snark picks in it. I tried it out on my guotar and i have to say it was impressive. I was using a pick from v-picks and it my become my go to pick. Not fully sold on snark picks yet but i do like the tone of them. Plus it was free lol
I was told my mandolin playing was terrible. So, I played my guitar for them and all of the sudden they were happy to hear my mandolin again!

Yeah, I got one with a new tuner a while back and tried it out. Pretty impressive for being a give-away. It is currently in the rotation.

I recently got a new tuner, so I got a free Snark pick with it. Very pleasantly surprised by the sound it pulls, but for me it is much too thin. I'm tempted to buy a 1mm pack, but I'd rather they went up to 1.4/1.5mm.

I also received a free one included with a Strings and Beyond purchase, and liked it so much that I bought a package each of the heavy and the medium heavy Neo-Tortoise picks. I will buy thicker ones if they become available, and I find them very similar in feel to Wegen picks.

Hmmm....I got a few as a freebie when I ordered something else, and I was not overly impressed.
They were OK, but I didn't find anything special about these picks. Maybe I should check again.

Maybe if enough people email them to say that mandolin pick buyers are famous for embracing hot new picks, and that if Snark want to appeal to this prosperous market they'll have to increase thickness to somewhere between 1.2 and 1.5mm?

    That's what I just did

Edges polished for 30+ hours so pick edges do not drag on string and corrupt tone.
A thicker mandolin pick might require unrealistic polishing time. Like say 35 hours!

    But wait....

Free pick file included in every pack. Customize point and edge of your pick
...and mess with 30+ hours of polishing!

Ok, not to knock the picks (they actually look nice).. I just find the marketing amusing.

I love the Snark picks. There is a noticeable improvement to the sound. Just received a dozen .94mm for the guitar and a dozen 1.07mm for the mandolin.

found some on amazon with free shipping, a dozen, got a set in the neo tortoise and the celluloid, in 1mm thickness.
I usually use a 1.2 or 1.4 in other brands, but found the .78 free one sounded and felt really good. hoping the thicker ones will still feel good and sound right-otherwise i'll have 24 useless picks(lol)

I wish they offered a multi thickness set of 12, so a person could check out which works best, and reshape, make a mistake, and still have a new one.

I got some as freebies too, they were okay on the guitar, but I don't like them on mandolin particularly. Not impressive enough to buy them, although I like the patterns. Maybe they can make Blue Chips in Snark patterns! Those would be great!

I wonder if those 30 hours of polishing involve putting them in a tumbler, maybe with some fine abrasive grit and let them tumble.

I'd like to try one or two of the thicker ones, but I really don't want to buy a whole package of them even though they're quite reasonable. I have 'way too many picks as it is.

I always wonder how much "hand polishing" is actually by hand. I am by no means rich, but make a decent living. 30 hours of me hand polishing a pick would buy you and several of your buddies a few BlueChips each.

I've been thinking about this a lot lately, and wish there was an easy way to setup a pick trading thread.

A pick trading thread shouldn't be hard. Just post it and let people work out trades amongst themselves. A few inexpensive picks could be simply stuck in an envelope with normal postage.

The nice lady at Snarks replied to my email. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they have any plans to make heavier gauges.
