Default New Rubner Tuners & Tailpiece Installed

I've had this mandolin for 30 years now, and it was time for a bit of an upgrade. It came with gold hardware, the tuners were a 12/1 ratio, and I have never been a fan of gold hardware. I had long lost the cover for the tailpiece, and it had bent over time to where the strings were touching the top. A new James was the answer.

I had a bit of a problem getting the right tuners, the Grovers I ordered ended up turning in the opposite direction. A member stepped up and offered me a set of Rubners at a good price, so I bought them.

Below is a pic, I think it looks great. I haven't tweaked the intonation yet, and the bridge looks a bit askew in the pic. I'll get to it later today, but need to get back to work for now. The install went ok, other than loosing one screw. It's amazing how dirty your floor is when you start searching with a flashlight. I'll find it eventually.

Maybe I'll start playing this more now, it's been a bit neglected since I got my Gibson F5.

Where can you get Rubners? I might want to install a set on my Kimble A5

I know you can order from Rubner, but I also saw these on Amazon. Looks like a decent deal.

I'd order from Rubner website, the price on Amazon is not any different than what I see on the website for those.

I just installed some Silver Nickel / Ivory Buttons tuners on my MT, pretty easy installation, had to fill in 4 screw holes first though.

I think they are now selling worm-over F style tuners now, according to a post I saw on the café recently.

Yes, mine are worm over F style. The bass side turns counter clockwise to tighten, the Grovers I bought turned the opposite way. They will soon go for sale on the classifieds.

If you order off the Rubner site they are shipped from the US.

Also, the Amazon listing liked to above is sold by Rosette, the same company who distributes Rubner here in the US. So it's from the same guy (Kent George) either way. Kent is super responsive to questions/concerns.

I just got my set yesterday, along with a James shell tailpiece. I can't say enough about how much I love the Rubners! Really looking forward to installing them but it'll be a little while.

Rubner makes some very elegant looking tuners. Just curious, looks like you put f style tuners on a A model. They look great but I was wondering why.

It must be a camera angle thing... They are straight inline A-style tuners. I've never bought Waverly's but I just cannot fathom them being $400 better than these...

Edit: never mind... I see the post was for the OP!!

    Nice!
Those are the same model Rubner tuners that came on my Franzke A5. They look and work great! I really like the rosewood buttons too.

It's what the builder put on 35 years ago when I got it, I think he had an extra set laying around. I just decided to keep the F style because I was used to them. Besides, the headstock has a curve to it, I'm not sure A's would work.

Hey David, I have a set of nickel silver luxury F-model tuners with ivoroid bindings. They are new, in original packaging, bought them from Kent for a project and we went in a different direction. PM me if interested.

    Thanks,
    David
