Thread: Bye Bye Blues

    Default Bye Bye Blues

I first learned this on tenor banjo about 7 years ago when I first started on tenor.Same tuning on tenor guitar CGDA.
I haven't posted in awhile, so I thought I'd slip one in. I've been enjoying all the threads and your vids Will. I really liked the Scottish tune.

I have a question for you all. What type of music do you play most on your Tenor Guitar? I know Irish is very popular now among all instruments. Just curious. Thanks.

Until very recently I haven't departed from my other music. I.e. play whatever I play mandolin on my tenor guitar.

But things could be changing. I am doing a bit more blues and bluesy stuff with the tenor, stuff I would not even try on the mandolin.

Well, as you can probably guess if you've checked out my YouTube videos, anything goes! I really like tunes from the 20s and 30s - people like Bix & Tram - plus French "caf'-conc" music from the 30s and 40s, and the odd Scottish folk piece. Not a lot of Irish, on the whole, but "The Blackbird" I DO like - one of the most wayward and unpredictable of Irish tunes. And then there's Norman Blake and Cape Breton waltzes...

So much music - so little time!

Nice playing on BB Blues, by the way.

In my current band I'm playing lead guitar on my Eastwood Warren Ellis 2P tenor. We play a lot of original music as well as songs by Credence Clearwater Revival, Marshall Tucker Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, etc. So far the bars we played at were too dark to get any videos that were usable. I'm hoping we'll eventually be able to get a video that we can post to Youtube.
