Thread: Elkhorn F-5 - Outstanding

    Default Elkhorn F-5 - Outstanding

I just received my new F-5 (#49) from Elkhorn Mandolins and it's already a superb instrument - huge chop, loud, woody tone and lows, mids and trebles that ring clear. Outstanding fit and finish - Adi top, one piece big leaf maple back, varnish, James tailpiece and Waverly tuners (hadn't realized what a difference they would make)...

Robb is a pleasure to work with and a first rate talent - can't say enough good things about the experience...or the instrument!

Robb, is that a satin NC finish?

Really nice graduation on the top stain... very subtle.

    Thanks,
    D

Thanks for the nice comment on the burst! The finish is a hand rubbed varnish... a process I've been working on over the years to give my mandolins a nice vintage vibe.
