I've seen still photos of Steve Earle with his Gilchrist octave mandolin, but still haven't run across any video or audio. Anyone found any? I'm eager to hear it.

Well, Weber put a vid on Youtube of "Steve Earle playing his Weber Sage octave mandolin":
There's also a vid of Steve playing a Gilchrist solid-body mandolin at Carter Vintage, but nothing seems to pop up featuring the Gilchrist octave.

Ha, he got an actual octave eh? I heard him explain to an interviewer once, "this instrument is called a bouzouki, except when I go through airport security; then it's an octave mandolin".
I got to see these folks last night. Great show! From where I was sitting I couldn't read the headstock and would've guessed the octave he was playing was a Northfield because of the black tuner buttons. I see now it is a Gilchrist #720 http://www.gilchristmandolins.com/serialnumbers
I hope Copperhead Road on the Gilchrist is forthcoming!
While I wait for Mr. Erale.... Here is a good cover featuring a Mid Missouri Mandolin.
