He plays the fender electric on several cuts on "It Ain't necessarily Square" which was a record of jazz standards he did with Homer and a band. Someone re-released it a few years ago. I saw something indicating that it was out of print, but it looks like elderly has some copies. It's actually two LPS on one record. There's some great stuff on there!

the complete mandolin instruction book has pictures of him and his co-writer trading a Fender 4 string (original; obviously)

Whoa! Never heard that before. Most definitely electric. I assume you're aware of the MP3 of some lessons that are available online at theacousticcompany.com. If not, check it out. Great stuff there.

The Jazz From the Hills CD has a couple of cuts of Jethro playing 4 string electric. Playing it very well.

Yes, that Jethro Live is all on his 8 string F5 Electric. This is really a good showcase of his electric playing.

On his "Jethro Burns " studio album, he plays the the F5 8 String electric on 3 trax, Kelly Boy Rag, C-Jam Blues, & Sitting on Top of the World. (the last 2 are real Blues Rock jams w his is son Johnny on Guitar. Johnny also plays Guitar on Kelly Boy. A song dedicated to his son, Kelly, Jethro's Grandson). Jethro plays his F5 8 electric on the Venuti Swing album. If you can find Homer & Jethro Live at Vanderbilt, he plays electric 8 string throughout, but it is mainly comedy trax, of course. It does contain two fantastic instrumentals, Jitterbug Waltz & Turkish March/Cumana. Both short & worth the price of admission.

On Jazz from the Hills Jethro is playing the Fender 4 string on, Fiddle Patch & Fiddle Sticks.
On The Early years Collection with Chet, There are 4 trax on the Fender 4, Get Up & Go, Downhill Drag, Avalon, & Sunrise Serenade.

Perhaps I'm in error, but I think the electric trax on Tain't Necassarily Sq, Jethro is playing Guitar, not the Fender. It has a fatter sound than the other Fender 4 trax. Other opinions on this? I'll gladly stand corrected.

I hadn't seen this Homer & Jethro video before . . . it seems VERY strange to see Homer Haynes playing a Stratocaster!

By the way - with the exception of the one that Sam Bush has, what ever happened to the rest of Jethro's mandolins?
