Thread: a Blue-Chip moment

  1. #1

    Default a Blue-Chip moment

Saw Special Consensus in Tamworth, great show, great players, and very friendly guys. During one song the guitarist's pick fell inside his guitar. They stopped playing and he explained he couldn't just continue with another because it was special. He then mentioned it was something vcalled a "Blue chip", and I understood his dilemma.Click image for larger version.

Forgot to say, Nick, the mandolin player, told me his Gibson was only seven months old, and has already opened up to produce a beautifil tone. The back on that instrument was stunning.

Special C is one of my favorite bands, Greg is one of the most genuinely nice guys I have ever had the privilege of meeting. I try to see them any time they are within a hundred miles and time permits.
He has had so many incredible musicians in the band over the years, and with that, he's had some very broad swings in the bands sound. Great talents!

Man, if I were to buy a Gibson (or any other high dollar mandolin) and had to wait for it to open up to produce a beautiful tone I'd not be very happy. Thanks for sharing the pictures Darren

Is it me or does that look like "Kentucky" on the headstock?

The inlay on the headstock looks like a vintage F12 inlay...

In the third picture over, it looks to me like it starts with "Kin ..." or "Hin ..." but looks like the Kentucky type script there. The inlay looks like a maple leaf.

At first I thought it looked like Kimble, but that's not even close to the lettering Will uses for his logo inlay.

Hmm, I used to go to Nick D's house for lessons (his garage, actually) and he always had at least a couple Blue Chips on the table and he said he had dropped a bunch in the sofa cushions. Maybe they're still there.

Hinde it is, too much beer on the night and a carefully positioned tuner - my apologies. But still, after only seven months, wow, what a sound.
