How far have you traveled to go to a music camp?

I think it was nine hours -- but we stopped halfway through to visit with my married daughter.

Minneapolis to Montreal? 1500 miles to KlezKanada. (6 times, yikes!) A few years ago it was just across town for the Classical Mandolin Society of America, CMSA. Now there is the option of Germany via the internet, but I have not signed up with Mike Marshal...yet.

About 700 miles, which is about 11 or 12 hours. Several times.

About 500 miles, which is about 9 hours. Several times.

The far away ones are more fun actually. There are four stages.

Planning the trip, which includes packing, choosing instruments and CDs to bring, googling all the campgrounds. (Part of the fun here is all the paraphernalia. Not just the hard shell cases, but the portable jam equipment, folding chairs, camp table, outdoor faux Asian rug, and finally getting to use your YETI cooler you got as a gift.

Then the trip out itself, playing all the CDs in the car, seeing the country side in the context of the music and the anticipation, and stopping at rest stops to play mandolin and even jam with others going to the same place.

Then the event itself.

And then the fun time driving home, still in up in the air, thinking about the history of traveling for music. And how next time you will be really prepared.

A little less than 800 miles for a camp (from where I was to Orleans, CA) and 925 miles for a jam (Stayton, OR). I got to the jam late, but there was just enough time to play two tunes. Those days are gone now. I travel for work too much nowadays: I just want to sit at home and pick for myself and my grandchildren on my time off.

In Montana every where is a ride but thinking of going to MA for camp

25.8 miles, according to Google, although I haven't actually been yet so even this probably doesn't count.

Also, it's not really a "camp" but there will be sandwiches at lunchtime so that's as close as we generally get to roughing it over here.

On the plus side, the chances of a grizzly attack is slightly less in the Chester area compared to the places you folks seem to get to.

A friend of mine & fellow UK Cafe member seems to visit the Kaufman camp each year & has visited Wintergrass a couple of times - so how far is that ?. Manchester to New York = 3346 miles. Manchester to Seattle = 4636 miles - it seems far enough !!,
