    Default Hello Mandolin Land

Been lurking around the Café for a good while now, thought it was probably time I said Hello and introduced my self. My name is Adam I am located in the piedmont of North Carolina. I have played the mandolin off and on for 25 years, more off than on though. I play an 02 Gibson A9 that I've owned about ten years.

The Mandolin Café is an awesome site, and I am amazed at the wealth of information and resources. Thanks to all that contribute.

    Thanks,
    Adam

Adam, Thanks for speaking up and welcome!!!! What is the finish like on your A9? I love the chocolate brown that they offered around that time!

    Thanks for the welcome gang.

The A9 is the lighter color. I heard it called paper bag color. I has picked up a little shine to the finish. I like it, kind of has a nice vintage look.

    trabb,
Good to here from local folks. Do you hang out at any jam sessions in the area. Seems like all the pickers I know are from the Cleveland County area. I make to a couple of jams over that way.

Swimbob, Your not to far down the road either. I have heard of some good Jamming in the Columbia Area. Although I have been at the mandolin off and on for 25 years or more, I still consider myself to be some what of a newb. I have spent more of those 25 yrs not picking verses picking. I tell you though, I am amazed at the amount of quality resources that are available for mandolin today. This site as opened my eyes to a wealth of tools for learning. When I started trying to learn to play the mandolin I could count the mandolin pickers I knew within a fifty mile radius on one hand. I would go to a jam or BG festival and be the only mandolin picker or one of a couple, now its not unusual for mandolins to out number guitars or banjos at a jam. It's a great time to be learning to play the mandolin.

Denny Gies, Thanks for the welcome. I'll try to stay out of the shadows.

Yeah Adam, I know a few good pickers down here but I'm still learning the mechanics so am not ready to join a jam yet. I too am amazed at all the resources available now. When I started playing bass there was not much more to turn to than Mel Bay's book. I know I had a copy but for the life of me I don't remember learning anything from it. I have to hear something and then see it to learn and back then Mel Bay's books didn't come with records or even 8 track tapes.

CES, great to hear from local folks. Seems to be a good many people from the Carolinas on the Cafe.

Mark Gunter, Thanks for the welcome. I'll see if I can figure out how to add a couple pics.

    Thanks for the welcome, HonketyHank

Hey Adam...welcome to the Cafe'. If you ever find yourself back east in Beaufort County, shoot me a PM. We have a fun jam every Saturday morning that you're invited to attend.

Unfortunately not. I play at my church on a weekly basis (mostly guitar, occasionally mandolin/OM/mandocello if it fits and doesn't need an acoustic guitar accompaniment), and between that, work, and kids, I just don't have time.

Tammy, I had to Google city of the big chair.

Mike, You're sure nuff down East. Thanks for the invite. If I am ever down that way, I will be sure to give you a shout.

trabb, Sounds like you have it covered from many angles.

You all will have to excuse me, I am a bluegrasser and I tend to forget that just because you play mandolin doesn't automatically mean you play bluegrass. Since I started hanging out here on the Café, I am amazed at all the different styles and types of music people are playing. There is some great stuff on this site.
