Smile I Bought the 1996 Gibson A5G at Mandolin Store (Classifieds)

Once again the Mandolin Store took care of me with great service, fast shipping and great set up. We are so fortunate to have so many great vendors in the Cafe who are available to help us with our mandolin questions and instrument needs.

I love this 1996 A5G from the Bozeman, MT era and signed by Bruce Weber! I read the history of Gibson thread that DataNick started and researched. I felt good about this instrument after getting all of that information digested.

True Bluegrass tone-- loud clear and plenty of woody chop. The action is low on this traditional flat neck with marvelous small fretwire. The case is in great shape. Just a few tiny dings on the front and the rest gives the impression of a closet queen for 20 year! The back has a glossy over flame you don't get at this price anymore. Nice longer scale with the 14th fret joint. Silvered tuners, and the pre-war The Gibson logo.

I would love to get a truss rod cover of MOP... any vendors that have that availability?

    Congrats Dan!

Looks like a beauty and I'm sure sounds great.

Though my 94' F5L is signed by Larry Barnwell, Bruce Weber told me in person that indeed he & his team built my mandolin.

Best Regards from one Weber owner to another!

Tricking out the new Gibson sounds like a fun project. Maybe a MOP TRC for the top, McClung armrest for the bottom, ToneGard for the back, and fingerrest for the top? Enjoy that Gibson in good health, Dan!

Congrats! I've got a '96 Gibson F5V that was also signed by Bruce Weber. If yours is anything like mine - it's a keeper!

    Happy New Year,

T.D., Thanks! I love the tone-- bright and ringing. Lots of volume. Very traditional. I didn't know how enjoyable a flat fretboard and small fretwire could be to play. The neck-- soft v is very comfortable and fast (other than my slow-hand).
