Chris gets discussed, but often buried in traditional bluegrass threads not bearing his name. Bluegrass mandolin players that mostly frequent bands tend to not get discussed quite as much as folks that do more solo, duo, trio work and freelance alot like a John Reischman, Joe Walsh, etc. Chris is easily one of the most hardcore of the hardcore Monroe stylists. If you want some realy interesting reading, follow him on Facebook. His Murphy Method products are also regularly available via the Classifieds. His playing is fierce, inspired.

He really has a wonderful take on the Monroe style. His singing is highly underrated. Worth the watch for sure.

Chris is one of the most genuine, kind, compassionate, and sincere guys you'll ever meet.

Chris is more interested in making art and exploring the consciousness of the human soul than he is in promoting his career; a very unique humble guy with a dose of Peter Rowan to him in his life journey. And btw, he's an excellent teacher!

Monroe Mandolin Appreciation Society on Facebook is another place to keep up with him.

Chris must take after his mother,Murphy. I met her at the IBMA festival in Owensboro in '92,& a nicer lady you could never wish to meet.
I love Chris' playing, & the tone he gets from his Randy Wood mandolin as i've mentioned before on the Cafe,is for me,as close to the tone of Bill Monroe's mandolin as i've ever heard. It's high time i looked for some CD's,

Chris is one of top authorities on Monroe style bluegrass. He is also a very patient teacher. I am formatting many of Chris' video lessons, and uploading them to Mandolins Heal The World. As Chris teaches completely by ear, there will be no notation or tab. You will still be able to slow the video down and loop a section making it much easier to learn. His older videos are pretty rough as far as production value but the content in his videos make it worth while. I agree with the original post that Chris should be more of a household word around here. If you are into traditional Monroe style playing, you owe it to yourself to check him out.

Because he does not post much on the cafe. He has other fish to catch and gigs to play at.
