Thread: Chart For Tab Numbers and Musical Notes

Default Chart For Tab Numbers and Musical Notes

Last night I was searching the archives and came across a chart that someone had done for another member. It was a staff with the notes and under each note was the corresponding tab number. The staff represented the strings. Hope this makes sense. Well now I can't find it. Anyway with this chart you can take regular notation and convert it to tab. Thanks for any help.

If you make your own chart you will learn a lot. The information is out there. It is how I started to learn to read music on the mandolin. It is not hard.

Funny but the same question was asked earlier this week right here: http://www.mandolincafe.com/forum/sh...otation-to-TAB

There are several more detailed things in that thread. Here's a simple one I made up:

No problem; if you do go about converting notation to tablature by hand using that, remember to take note of sharps/flats in the key signature and in the score itself. You can probably learn a great deal by doing this by hand, but I'd recommend eventually buying a program like TablEdit or something similar, which will do a great job of automatically creating TAB when you enter notation, or vice versa.

While reading older threads on a different topic, I came across this image offered by member Wayne Bagley in 2011:

I used that one recently, very convenient when learning standard notation

Here's another method. Sort of half way but has it’s advantages too. It’s a bit more fretboard/chord oriented, can encourage you to learn the notes as letters further up the fretboard. I’ve seen it I think on German sites, if anyone has a couple of examples?

    -also check out http://abcnotation.com
as you can use the player to proof read you tune. That is, when you hear it played you can spot errors fairly easily even with very complicated manuscripts.

This’ll come across as snark but if people would redirect the effort they put into avoiding standard notation they’d be competent readers of the dots in a short time.

Sorry for the repetition, this has been said over and over, but MandolinCafe is one of the friendliest places on the planet so I’ll say it again. Friends.
