If you don't want the beer(!), you can buy those lid gaskets at any home brewing store for 20 cents each.

A large safety pin works pretty good if you need the extra protection. If the strap is loose you can also glue a second piece of leather behind and cut the hole and slit tighter so it is tight on the button, Oh and quit taking it on and off so it stays tight

I'm a homebrewer and have used these to hold straps onto the ends of guitars for years. They work great.
Until recently had one on my Flatiron mando until I upgraded to a thicker strap which prevents one from being put on, but it stays on better anyway so it's not a loss.

Been using these for about 4 years now. 24 for less than $2.50.
Not a bad deal with lots of leftovers. (Apologies. I'll look into learning the correct way to post a web address before I do it again.)

I've been using them for years. They're called rubber washers. I buy them at the hardware store for a whole lot less than a dollar apiece.

The ones I buy at the hardware store are black. If I remember correctly, they were about a quarter apiece.

Here's a variation marketed for guitar and a bit more expensive. They also come in blue here.

Here they are in black.

I paid £0.59 UK ($0.72 US) for a pack of 4 black rubber washers a couple of weeks ago. I bought them for my bathroom taps. They'd fit on a mandolin strap button pretty easily, but i've already got 2 Grolsch beer bottle washers,

Do yourselves a favor and get a Bailey strap. His strap button mounting system is about as elegant and as simple as you can get, and you get a beautiful strap that will last two lifetimes.

Avoid the ones sold by Fender. They have a nasty habit of splitting when least expected.

I bought a 4-pack of something just like these a year ago in local music store (so probably allparts was the source). One of the best investments I've made. The soft Lakota leathers straps would pop off but no longer. Already lost the black ones in dark pubs; never have a problem seeing the red ones.

My local homebrew sells a 100 bag for $9. I give them to repair clients as a free throw-in.
I was going to order some for my mandolin, but I saw this at the bottom of the description:
Package of 4 Strap Stoppers for securing 2 guitars.
But seriously, these look to be thicker than the rubber washers I bought from the hardware store. Not sure if that matters or not, my strap feels fairly secure, and I have a K&K endpin jack.
I would buy them, but I'll probably wait until I need more stuff from Stewmac to ease the shipping cost.
A quarter tone flat and a half a beat behind.
Just to be clear, are rubber stoppers/gaskets/washers ELEGANT???
I guess I was hoping for platinum, titanium, etc.....

They had a story on the local news where some enterprising teenagers made their (matching) prom dress and tuxedo out of multi-color duct tape..............yup, colorful, interesting, creative, but still fell short of achieving true elegance, IMHO!
Elegant as a design concept. Those bread bag closures? They work, they aren't in any way elegant. Cut a piece of over-sized anything? It'll work, it's not elegant. Something as simple as a round washer that just works and you can keep in your pocket? It's an elegant answer. Don't confuse elegant with expensive.
