Redwood oval

This is my first mandolin with a Redwood top. Back, neck and sides are Tasmanian Blackwood, Indian Rosewood bindings, Tiger Myrtle pickguard (Tasmanian), Lancewood tuning knobs. I must say I am quite impressed with this instrument. The wood combination looks great and the sound impressed me enough that I immediately ordered another 3 Redwood tops. The sound reminds me of my Goldfinch model mandolins that have King Billy Pine tops, probably not quite as much clarity, but with a more solid sound. I like it a lot.

Peter, That is a fine looking A model! I love the look of the Tasmanian Blackwood! Redwood is one of my favorite tonewoods; I love the tone it gives a mandolin!

There are some plantations of Redwood from California in Australia. I have seen some of the plantations, but they are fairly small and the trees less than 100 years old so no where near as big as in California. Some have been harvested and used for guitar tops.
