    Hey all,

    I'm listening to Foghorn Stringband's "Reap what you sow" CD, to their version of the tune/song Georgia Railroad. #After a few times through, they sing 3 verses, but I cannot make out all the words. #I hunted on Mudcat but didn't find it. #Anyone heard or recognize this song and know the right words? #

    You and I, we went fishin’
    (Georgia Railroad, I am bound)
    ?
    (Georgia Railroad, Georgia bound)

    Walked to the road and ?
    (Georgia Railroad, I am bound)
    Talked to the girls, I ain’t got money #(?)
    (Georgia Railroad, Georgia bound)

    I got drunk and fell in the gully
    (Georgia Railroad, I am bound)
    I got drunk and ?
    (Georgia Railroad, Georgia bound)

    Thanks,
    Jeff Rohrbough

    I'm not sure about the Foghorn version, but here are the lyrics I recollect. I think I learned this setting from the old Fennig's All Star Stringband Saturday Night in the Provinces LP back in the '70s.

    Peter and I, we went fishin'
    Georgia Railroad I am bound;
    Caught a big mudcat*, put him in the kitchen,
    Georgia Railroad, I am bound.

    Walked down the road but the road's all muddy,
    Georgia Railroad I am bound;
    I'm so drunk I can't stand steady,
    Georgia Railroad, Georgia gal.

    I got drunk and fell in a gully
    Georgia Railroad I am bound;
    I got drunk but I never got muddy.
    Georgia Railroad, Georgia gal.

    Repeat first verse (and others if you want to keep going)

    *A mudcat is a yellow bullhead catfish (Amieurus natalis).

    Paul,

    Many thanks! I guess the murkiness of the lyrics is in keeping with the muddy subject of the song. I'll listen to FSB's version again and see if these sound like what they're singing.
