Default What is the collective noun for Girouards?

There I was at the Didmarton festival enjoying a pick when the guy playing next to me noticed I was playing the same model of mando as he! I think there are only two possibly three Girouard F5's in the UK and these two live 350 miles apart.
I had to take a photo but what to call it - a brace of Girouards, a coincidence of mandos or eye candy of Girouards (forgive the pun!)?

    Any ideas?

Girouardi? I like "brace" that you used.

    Nice looking instruments!

Love my Girouard A model mando.

Now that I have recently aquired an awesome Girouard mandola, I guess I also need an answer to this "bracing" question.

I believe it is a 'gigue' of Girouards

I have used "Brace" for years and consistently get odd looks when I use it.
    I like "Gigue" a LOT!
Chris, maybe a close shave, old fashioned "Lilac Vegetal" and a "Bullshot" might provide sufficient "bracing effect"

So if two are a "gigue" would three or more become a giggle?

A Litter of Girouards? A Kettle? A Brace? But since its from the UK - a Colony of Girouards??

"Brace" just means "two", so that is correct for your picture, but isn't really a collective noun for Girouards.

the collective noun in my case would possibly be a "divorce" of mandolins.

Last year in Mulligans in Amsterdam, 432 miles from Aberdeen as the KLM crow flies, I happened to see someone playing a mandolin like mine and it was indeed by Marshall Dow, who doesn't have that many instruments in circulation so we had a little Duet of Dows.

    Sorry, don't agree.

    Anyway................

My sister had done some research on our family name and while there were several references to where the name originated from. Here is a snippet from one of the ancestry websites: Girouard Name Meaning French: from Gérouard; according to Morlet, from the Germanic personal name Geroward, Giroward, composed of the elements gar, ger ‘spear’, ‘lance’ + ward ‘guardian’. Dauzat, on the other hand, describes it as a derivative of Geroul, a compound of gar, ger + wolf, wulf ‘wolf’.

So with our fondness of the furry beasts, we will elect to go with wolf. So maybe they should be a pack of Girouards?

Glad you got to meet a fellow Girouard player ThomsonII!!!! Your right, we only have three F5's total in the UK. That must have been quite the experience to look over and see another Girouard mando!

Is it just to silly to say a BAND of Girouards?

"Brace" is nice but there is also "Coterie," "Caucus," or "Cabal!"... or even "Panoply"

I like that... "A Panoply of Girouards"... maybe its just me

No offense taken! I actually thought it was funny myself. However, it did remind me of the time I was stationed in Saudi Arabia. We had 15 guys to a tent, no running water and about a half mile hike to the closest privy. While I was spared from the nasty parasite, several of my tent mates were not. I won't go into details!

Glad you got to try out one of our mandolins! Thanks for the compliment.

For those who are not aware, Giardia is a bacterial infection found in the intestines. It is very hard to get rid of once you have it, and it common in dogs. It is also very contagious.

I can see why Max would object to the term being used in context with his instruments.
