    Default The other search continues

I've been on this crazy YouTube Thile marathon after posting the "this is incredible post" earlier today ...
Im in search of the best Thile video to share with some colleagues. I want to know what some of you consider to be the best Thile content caught on film.

    Young pudgy Thile?
    Clean cut sweet afton Thile?
After touring with John Mayer Thile?
Right before Nickel Creek hiatus Thile?
    Resedent of Brooklyn Thile?
An appreciation for Whisky Thile? (punch brothers)
    Classical world Thile?
    Prarie home companion Thile?

    All the best,
    Dem

Do you have a video to prove this Flatrock?

    No proof to offer...just opinion.

Someone more tech-capable than I can post it properly. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=R8qI...=RDR8qIseFg77Q

And for what it's worth, this might not be the best, cleanest technically perfect picking Thile has ever done.
I like this compilation for the exposure it gave to some great songs to a lot of those young 'rebels' that may never have heard them otherwise.

Another vote for Thile and Davis. Traditional but with a modern twist.

Best? Best as in what, most impressive, most musical, most technical, most pleasing, most innovative. There is more to Chris than can be distilled in a ranking of videos along some notion of best.

I am not being snarky, trying not to at least. But really, Chris is and has been complex enough, and contributes to music and mandolinning along so many dimensions, that any summary will miss the point. IMO. Its little better than "favorite Thile" video.

I would say, consider the friend you wish to introduce CTs music too, and what would that person be most open to, most excited by.
A talent for trivializin' the momentous and complicatin' the obvious.

    2 good Classical World Thile's

IMO these 2 give good credence to his ability as well as his personality and what appears to be a good dose of humility.

These two videos never fail to put a silly smile on my face:

It just shows that he is not only a virtuoso but also a great bandleader. The chemistry between band members and between band and audience is just wonderful ... There, I'm smiling again!

This is a favorite of mine. The improvisation is stunning. Though in this case I do think Michael Daves' B-part steals the show.

I was about to post this, I like this one a lot.

I do also like his "classical" mandolin concerto, but somehow can't find a good video of him playing it live.

Totally forgot about this one, too. Great playing from all four, especially on the second song.

I like this one of PHC Thile,... not as much Mando content, but a lot of fun for sure.

Who knows about best. But, my favorite project has been Thile with Brad Mehldau. I really wish this would have produced a recording.

In my mind, whatever all of us think about his style, or sometimes choice of tunes, this has to be the best mandolin player who has ever lived. He is just plain scary, can do ANYTHING, whenever he wishes, it seems. I am unfamiliar with this guitar player, but, he's wonderful.

Thile's "first song". Love how he seems to back himself into a corner and just gets out, total just playing on the fly which is when you are truly making music......Then into the grammy winning album!
