Thanks a lot.. it's a great playing mandolin, very thin neck that fits your hand nicely and the action is great. It sounds amazing, and I think that has a lot to do with the piece of fir that I used for the top.
I had lots of help from my dad, who is a great luthier, (the dove mandolin guys) and also from Mr. Buddy Davis who was nice enough to show a young fella' like myself some tricks of the trade that he has learned over many years of building great instruments.
Nice job! I love the curl in the maple. What kind of tone do you get out of Fir? I haven't used it yet but I wanted to give it a try.
Wow. I can't believe that's a number one. Great work!
Dang, that looks really beautiful. Great work. I wish I had that kind of skill.

The piece that I used for the top is very old reclaimed fir and the way the grain worked out was amazing. It was perfectly pie cut after I glued it up, with extremely tight grain starting in the middle and slightly wider grain around the rim. It has a great resonance and punch to it, but it maintains a really natural tone, not brittle at all. Personally, I feel like the grain has as much to do with the sound as the species itself, but thats just my $.02 after only having built one.
