I recently experienced a case where I clicked "reply with a quote" and saw more text in my draft than was visible in the original post.
I am not qualified to speculate an explanation.

Sorry to spoil all the fun everybody seem to be having, but I have had this phenomenon several times. The "extra" text is not really extra, it's snippets of the original text copied all over the place, like a mirage. If you start to edit this jumble, you find that you're not exactly editing what you are seeing, but different portions of the text. I guess it's a sporadic display problem of the browser's.

You've answered your own question and that is the most likely answer. Assuming that there are at least three major operating systems being used and three or four browser options available there could be a chance that a mismatch in any of those could cause an issue. Add in any sort of ad blocker or screen management software and the problem is further compounded. When a problem occurs across the spectrum of users then the problem is most likely on the server side.

Don't spoil all the fun. Show us a screen shot.
And what happens if you hold down your shift key and hit refresh in the browser?

It has happened to me only twice. And I don't know what I did to make it happen. I will pay better attention if it happens again.
And so should we assume from this being posted here that it happened... where? On the forum? What were you doing when mystery event occured? And you think our software is to blame for the problem on your end? Just asking because we aren't mind readers.

Yes one of the threads of the forum here. What happened was
- I clicked "reply with quote"
- In my draft of my post was more text than was in the post I was quoting.
- I scrolled back and forth to confirm and yes there was an extra two sentences in my editor than in the original post.
- I edited out what I didn't need, added my reply and posted it without a problem.
- It happened a second time, same way, several days later. That was when I started this thread. It has not happened since.
I don't have any idea if it was your software, or my Internet Explorer, or me just fat fingering something.
Having more imagination than technical savvy in this arena I really can't hazard a relevant guess. I did not recognize the "phantom" additional text as being something I wrote or something I cut and pasted from previous internet or computer activities.
I will pay better attention to it next time if it ever happens again.
