At 61, coffee and mandolin, nothing better
At 61, coffee and mandolin, nothing better
Yes.
That's where I'm at....
Coffee and internet then breakfast. Although it is Gym day arrrgggg . Sooooo music early this afternoon .With coffee after my nap . . . . . R/
I love hanging out with mandolin nerds . . . . . Thanks peeps ...
Na.............get out of bed, look in the bed, if nothing has fallen off during the night grab your mandolin and then it is a doublely good day.
As Tom T. Hall said..."We had Bill Monroe for breakfast every day"...Too bad there isn`t any bluegrass on the radio any more, not where I live anyway...
I play music most every morning for two reasons:
The first, to make sure there wasn't some sort of brain damage overnight.
Second, brightens my typically caustic attitude. It could often be the very best part of the entire day.
Stated before: If I get tapped by one of these side-dumpers, at least I played a little music before I went.
...and to end the day
And a little bit of pickin at lunch time too
Just not too much coffee-unless you're really working on that tremolo!
BTW, thank you for your service, sir. I noticed you are retired military.

Personally...??
I spent some money on a good espresso machine, so....off I go!
'Mandolins Before Breakfast' for me! (That's the name of a song I'm nearly finished with.) (Caffeine sponsored!)

Seriously for a moment - I have experimented with mandolin in the morning or at various other times during the day. What I have found is mandolin is, of course, great at any time, but post mandolin can be hard.
I don't play mandolin first thing in the morning anymore because it makes it really difficult to get my head in the game for work afterwards.
And I don't play mandolin last thing before bed anymore because I stay up too late and even after I put it away I can't get to sleep.
I generally play right after work during the week.
Agreed!
Thing I haven't been able to figure out is why I actually play better in the morning, don't seem to need a warm-up. Any other time of day I have to warm up for some time before my fingers and brain are working right. But first thing in the morning it all seems to click. Either that or I'm actually still in bed dreaming.
A tip I got from Al DiMeola is to practice first thing that you wake up. That is when your brain is most child like, and that is when you will discover something new, or break from a rut, etc. it is not easy to do all of the time, but that reckless, brainless practicing breaks barriers..
I'm a great believer in Whisky before Breakfast.
But I'll take it on faith.
"Give me a mandolin and I'll play you rock 'n' roll" (Keith Moon)
I like to play every AM as well! It often is at 4am but I live in a musical home. It is like white noise. For some reason I feel I can play best at this time but also not disturb by the chaos of the day yet. I will wake up with a song on my mind and get up and play it. Usually it is something I'm working on. It seems it plays correctly in my head all night. So morning is the best time to work on it. As Farmerjones mentioned I also think if something happens to me today at least I got to play a little before. Crazy! But I do work in a hospital and see some awful things. So coffee and mandolin first thing in the morning !
Fretfet2...to have a song going in your head at night, and then be able to wake up and actually figure it out and play it, is a real gift that I don't think a lot of people can do..

The older I get, the less tolerant I am of political correctness, incompetence and stupidity.
T.D. Maybe I should clarify, I work on playing it correctly.
Feed the cats, read something spiritual, never turn on the TV or Radio, stay out of the wife's way as she needs to get to work before me, and then pick up and play the mandolin. The cats don't seem to mind.

But I would never be able to quit playing to go to work if I played first thing in the morning. So I usually play before bed (relaxes me.)
15 to 20 minutes of mando time makes me a lot easier to get along with once I get to work
