Thickness caliper

Hi! Does anyone know of a good thickness caliper that's a little more affordable? Stew Mac has one, not sure about the price though: http://www.stewmac.com/Luthier_Tools...s_Caliper.html
If not, no big deal. I'll just have to quit being so cheap!
Also, which do you prefer - inches or metric?

I bought a dial indicator at Harbor Freight for under $20 and built a wooden frame. I have to be a little more caerful in using it because there is more flex in the frame than a metal one but with care it is more than accurate enough.

I use inches because my apprenticeship in the tool and die shop was done at a time when inches were the rule. It really does not make any difference. 0.01 mm is slightly finer resolution than 0.001 inch but for working wood the difference is not meaningful.
