    Default Old S.S. Stewart Ukulele

I am looking for information on this S.S. Stewart Ukulele. I recently picked it up from a local antique estate. I have not found another like it, so thats why I came here. Any help would be beneficial. Thanks for your time and expertise.

I am sure you will get some info here but i would post on Ukulele Underground which is just about as active as this site but concentrates on ukuleles.

According to this thread on the Unofficial Martin Guitar Forum, Stewart used the blue oval label in the 1940's. At that point Samuel Stewart had been dead 40 years, and the "S S Stewart" label, once associated with some very fine and unusual banjos, had been passed around, including acquisition by Buegeleisen and Jacobson (B & J), the major distributor of a wide variety of instruments made by many manufacturers.

Gibson made some S S Stewart-labeled ukuleles, but this one doesn't look Gibsonian to me. Concur with Jim G's advice to try a uke website.

I agree with Allen, this is not a Gibson-made SSS uke. Top appears to be Koa and Gibson never used it on any instrument. The only Gibson-made SSS ukes I've seen date to around 1930, when Gibson made the SSS guitars & banjos for B&J.

I am not sure that it is koa. It looks more like flamed mahogany to me. This looks like one of the nicer SSS ukes I have seen. Many years ago I had an SSS taropatch from that same period and with that same blue label.
