Default Tim Connell & Eric Skye

Went looking for a version of Saint Anne's today (for the life of me, I couldn't remember how to get into the B part), and I stumbled onto a 2016 release by Tim Connell & Eric Skye. I know I must have seen a blurb on the Cafe when it was released, but it passed right by me. Wow! Fabulous recording. Just mandolin and guitar, all instrumental, mostly familiar fiddle tunes. Not a lot of blazing tempos, just creative arrangements and soulful improv. Really drives home what a really locked-in duo can do with what one might consider "old warhorse" tunes. Listened to it 3 times through. For me, praise doesn't get any higher.

Here's a sample from three years ago.

Thanks so much, Mitch - this is Tim writing back, I really appreciate the notice and praise. Actually, the video is indeed a few years old, but June Apple, the CD, is currently in pre-release, hot off the presses and our official release show in Portland is September 17. You can get it now CD and/or download mp3s exclusively at CD Baby, but it will soon be available on all digital platforms and physical CDs at Amazon. No blurb yet on the Cafe - I was just working one up when I saw your post!

I'm very happy with the final product, and you're right, very simple takes on these old classics emphasizing the beautiful instruments and our own quirky takes on what a fiddle tune is. Thanks for spreading the word!

I'm really enjoying these duets by Tim and Eric! Playing fiddle tunes at breakneck speed is fun but I find slowing them down a bit opens up a lot of creative possibilities as Tim and Eric have done. These tunes are so beautiful and when they pass by a bit slower I hear them differently in a good way. Got me to working on Temperance Reel now!

Wow, that was so great to listen to! So musical. I'd take this any day over someone playing the tune 5 bpm faster than where they are comfortable. Looking forward to CD.

Hi, Tim! It was actually June Apple that I was listening to, couldn't get enough of it! Just linked the older video because I couldn't find any of the new CD on the Tube. Anyway, thanks for the reply and, even more, thanks for the recording! It will be on heavy rotation for some time to come.

Tim plays a mandolin made by Paul Lestock. He talks about it here:
