Fantastic tutorial! So thorough, will certainly help learners get off on the right foot when it comes to playing jigs with the right feel!

I'm following your youtube page for a couple of years, it's always inspiring. Not a lot of irish players out there who can play with such a nice tone and also ornamentation.
Hope to play with you someday, we're not too far from each other. If you ever in NL let me know, I know a couple of great sessions

Wow! Best camera angles, clear focus, emphasizing key learning points without even talking! Anyone posting video tutorials ought to take a look at what you've done. As a beginner, it makes me want to get started playing Irish tunes right away!

Great tutorial videos - thanks for posting.
My suggestion is that when you are demonstrating the tune at the beginning or end of the video and not focusing on details, you get the camera to pull back and include the whole picture of you particularly the right arm legs and general posture which are all important, especially for beginners.

Camera movement is a feature that requires a second person to actually operate the camera, plus - and that's the tricky part - understand what is going on in order to pick out what is important. If you do not have such a person, a static camera is the best alternative (I have seen attempts with automatic cameras that zoom in to the wrong parts all the time). One alternative approach would be to have two cameras (whole picture and zoomed) and integrate both in one video using PiP technique.

One very interesting feature in those videos, however, would go unnoticed without a strong zoom on the right hand: triplets. Many ask "how can I play those fast triplets?" and there's the answer, clear as day: the fist holding the pick, normally in a relaxed and half-open manner, suddenly contracts and pivots around a point near the middle knuckle instead of the wrist, like a figure skater doing a pirouette. That's exactly the kind of letting physics' laws work for you that you need for success without physiological damage.
the world is better off without bad ideas, good ideas are better off without the world

Very nice playing, Tergal. I've been playing more tenor banjo than mandolin these days, and I really like your banjo videos too. Thanks for sharing your tunes and technique on the Cafe.

Wow, this is nice. You play nice! I tried to play in an Irish session but it's just too fast, especially jigs. I simply cannot move my hand that fast.

These are fantastic! Thanks for putting the time and effort into producing them. The ability to play along with the moving tab is a really useful learning technique for me. I think I'll be adding some new Irish tunes to my practice sessions.
    Cheers,
    Lex
