Wow, got a reply less than 24 hours later from Eastman. They are sending a replacement tailpiece, which I should get in 1-2 weeks. That's real customer service.

    Thank you Eastman!

I am glad that worked out for you. I have one of the more recently-manufactured mandocellos. No hinge on the tailpiece. I am sure it's a little trickier to change the strings (still not bad), and I have not heard about any problems with breakage.

I was going to ask if they changed the design. Can anyone post pictures of the new and the old tailpieces so that people that find this thread in the future will know what they have?

I scrambled to check mine, seems I have the one piece version, should be more reliable. However, that Weber tailpiece looks swell to me!

Oh, and the tailpiece I have on mine will accommodate either loop or ball end strings. The ball fits snugly between the loop end prongs.

That is a beautiful tailpiece and really looks good on that mandocello, nice work.

The tail piece on my Eastman 815 mandola failed. I elected to go with an Allen. Looks great, might even have improved the sound.
