Digging into some more not so common Apollon photos, here is one from the 60's Vegas years which shows Apollon with Rena Kuebler, who took lessons from Dave, bought one of his 50's F5s, and also got to perform in his band during the Vegas years. She is holding that mid 50's F5 and Dave is holding his early 30's Fern. Note the same background as the Dawg's photo above. That photo was the Dawg's attempt to clean up and re-colorize my original and was used on the back cover of the CD insert.
Hi Ken. I happen to own the 3 albums that he made in the 60's or so. They are packed away but I'll look for them.
then I'll scan the jacket pictures and post them for you. bill m.

What is good Phaedrus? and what is not good?, need we ask anyone to tell us these things?
f5Loar was asking about using an aluminum bridge top -- I use one on my 23 snakehead -- the bridge is from 1921, I've been told, if I can find a photo, i'll add it to the post. I don't play bluegrass -- it adds a nice shimmer to the high notes when I play classical and cuts through the fiddles and whatnot when I play in session. I'm a fan -- but I don't remember seeing others around, fwiw.

Actually Randi, that was me asking about them. Very cool, I might see about having one made up, interesting experiment not miserably expensive I would hope.

Good attempt to get more color into Dave's cheeks. Bigger size and you can see more details in the mandolins too.
That sure is an original 20's alum bridge top. You can see the big difference in that one and the ones he used in the photo above. Dan, that was a good one. Keep them coming. I'm still holding off until I see some more from you guys. I think the guy who has Dave's Fern and another guy who has his mid 50's F5s are on mandolincafe. Maybe they can show some current photos. I'll post some current photos I have of Dave's '37 F5 which is a mate to Sam Bush's "Hoss" (pre- hippie sanding era). I have many originals in matted frames in my museum and didn't want to have to take those apart to scan if others have the same photos, so post what you got. I still think the Dawg is holding out on us here. He's got to have a drawer packed full of Dave photos. Those ones he used in the Mandolin World News would be good see here in a digital scan.
Sorry Tim! Didn't back up far enough to find the original comment! I had the idea they were available if you went looking for them -- like on eBay -- but that was just an impression and might have nothing to do with reality!

No harm, no foul. Thanks for the suggestions, this is most likely simply a phase for me, wait a week and, I'm betting it will pass.

let's don't loose interest in posting photos here. I know there are more of you out there with some great photos of Apollon. Where is Evan Reilly? He got really close to Apollon. Here is another photo from my stuff. It's of the early 60's Vegas band, similar to the one the Dawg posted in his first post of some great photos. Mine appears to be a different night, maybe even a different year. I've not compared them side by side but not exactly the same band.
Whole lotta Gibsons goin' on.....
But Amsterdam was always good for grieving
And London never fails to leave me blue
And Paris never was my kinda town
So I walked around with the Ft. Worth Blues
Apollon was still an avid Gibson endorser. Monroe was still not one.
1950's and 60's Gibsons... until you look at the guy in the back.
Dot inlay Fern F5, that one's from the 20's, one of the good ones...
Wonder if that's one of Dave's old ones.
