Default Texas Swing with a mandolin

So I saw one of my favorite bands "Asleep at the Wheel" recently and noticed one of the fiddlers now plays electric 4 string "mando" on some songs but mostly just doubling up the higher guitar licks. So it got me thinking who does texas swing and uses a mandolin? Anyone?

Thanks I was thinking Tiny Moore when I typed this, and I feel silly for not thinking of Johnny Gimble

"Fiddler is Dennis Ludiker and he can knock it out of the park on both fiddle and mandolin. Just an incredible musician."

He sure is. A number of YouTube videos of him out there.

I used Gimble's tuning on mine.

Here's my cheapo solution but it sounds awesome:

Listen to Johnny Gimble's break at 3:34 on this tune:

Just one of his many unreal creations on the mandolin.

How do you get the low C string to intonate with the mandolin scale? I have trouble with it, even with a 16" scale instrument.

Yup, the low C string compensation is a problem but I get by just splitting the difference with all the strings. None are perfect but when blended with the rest of my instruments on a recording, the things sounds pretty good. I have another intonation solution in the works for this mandolin though. I purchased a mandolin bridge with 4 levels of adjustable intonation compensation on each string. See the link below and note that each string's metal bridge resting point can be pulled out of its slot and be be moved forward and backward to 4 different positions. I believe this will be a big improvement over the standard mandolin bridge where the relative intonation of each string is fixed:

The bridge arrived but I haven't had time to try it out yet! Note the inlaid metal blades on the both ends of the bridge are not permanently fixed and can be removed to make room for relocating the bars that the strings rest on to all 4 intonation positions.

offset on the bridge for C, a bit longer.. may need a DIY upper bridge piece
rather than what came with your mandolin..

need notching a new one for single string as it is , rather than paired course...

    4 piece tun-o-matic probably a budget buster..

Mandroid, read my post above. $5.72 shipped for a bridge that does just what you said, allowing a custom offset for the C note.
