Been playing for almost six months and coming along just fine. Have memorized Solder's Joy, Old Joe Clark, Red Wing, Arkansas Traveler and numerous hymns.
So what would be the next 10 most popular tunes I should learn?

Two pretty basic tunes you can learn without being overwhelmed then, you can learn some embellishment.

I say if you're only going to learn fiddle tunes, get a fiddle!
Just my 2 cents . . . there are other songs.

I think jaycat was intimating that there are other songs to learn besides bluegrass fiddle tunes...

Mr. Jaycat was helpful.
With 43 posts under your belt I'm sure, just like myself, you are discovering a lot of different types of music. I found that Nigel Gatherer's website was pretty useful in helping me find some of what I liked.

Well maybe I overreacted, but it would have been better if he suggested, straight out, that I also learn non "fiddle tunes" instead of saying I may as well play the fiddle if I am going to play "fiddle tunes".

But honestly, what are the top 10 songs played at jams or a camp? My guess is those four tunes I have memorized are on that list.
Songs are songs and tunes are tunes. At a recent jam, I played Soldier's Joy and Red Wing on my flute and got nothing but positive feedback and and invite to return.
Sorry about the rant. But I just had to say a thing or two.

Thanks
The first two songs I learned on the mandolin were Greensleves (what Child is this) and He Leadeth Me, along with Sweet Hour of Prayer. I even did a few Blues Rifts. Some stuff along with a BB King CD. Flute and Sax stuff on the mandolin, just to find my around the instrument.
So as you can see I am not just doing fiddle tunes, but rather I want to learn Bluegrass tunes as I take up my third instrument. This stuff is new to me.

an interest in fiddle tunes doesn't have to imply that you don't have the capacity to enjoy other tunes - maybe you are just getting started and itching to participate in a open group of pickers, where the few tunes you have managed to learn are commonly played.
The thing about fiddle tunes is they teach you fingering and positions. Then you can use knowledge to play some of the phrasing in tunes around the campfire and start to work things in when you hear the tune.
Get the tune in your head then, tell your fingers where to go.
Jaycat only has one side of the bed, and he's (think Frank Wakefield here) "Wiiise"!

Mark, someone slipped the word "capo" onto your song list!
Yea, their are Irish fiddle tunes, old timey fiddle tunes, Scottish fiddle tunes, New England fiddle tunes, French Canadian fiddle tunes, French traditional fiddle tunes, Swedish and Nordic fiddle tunes, English Country dance fiddle music, English traditional fiddle tunes. There are so many great tunes out there.
Yes there is much to play outside of fiddle tunes, but the fiddle tune repertory is so huge, and soooo much fun, and its the content of many many many jams across the country and the whole darn world. And it is a ripping good time. You could go a long way playing nothing but fiddle tunes. A long long way.
But yes there is other stuff out there to play.
