Well, Butch had and used both a Nugget and a '25 Gibson F-5 for recording, so likely one of them bad boys. He got great tone out of any mandolin he played.

If I'm correct, the liner notes have which mandolins were used for each song. I'll have to check.

The instruments on that one are listed in the liner notes but I'll be damned if I can find my copy. There were some alternate tunings used on that recording too. I seem to remember the Nugget, a Sobell octave, and maybe the '25 Gibson being used? Can anybody else locate their liner notes?

    Found it!
    1925 Gibson used on 1-4, 11, 12
    Nugget in AEAC# on 6, 8, 9
    Sobell Octave on 5, 7, 10, 13, 14

This is why I refuse to throw out all of my cds, even though they're digitized now!

Some Butch bromides I can share:

    - (after playing my [builder x mandolin] that I had waited 4.5 years to receive): "See, this is why I don't like it..."
    - (when I asked him about the 'modern' chop chord 7-2-5-3): "I hate that"

He had his prefs, that's for sure. To this day, I try to learn pickers 'Old Town' and 'Slocum Hollow' , 2 very fine tunes.
