Default A. Corelli (1710): Sarabande in E minor (Op. 5, No 8), with score

Arcangelo Corelli (1653-1713): Sarabande, from Violin Sonata No. 8 in E minor (Op. 5)

This quartet arrangement of Corelli's famous Sarabande in E minor is from a Dutch mandolin magazine published in 1927, for three mandolins and mandola (although I play that part on tenor guitar), from the Nakano archive. The first mandolin plays Corelli's original violin part, and the mandola/guitar plays Corelli's bass line, with sparse harpsichord-like harmonies realised from Corelli's figured bass notation played by the other two mandolins.

Lovely piece, Martin. You certainly find interesting arrangements.

I have just made a new recording of this lovely sarabande, this time with video and without the additional mandolin harmonies -- just a duet of mandolin and tenor guitar. It's a lot of fun to play!
