Default Bach on the Liuto cantabile by Ferdinand Binnendijk

    Hi all,

Johann Sebastian Bach on the concert mandoloncello; the Liuto cantabile!

Here is Bach's Suite No. III; masterfully performed and interpreted by the Dutch mandolinist Ferdinand Binnendijk.

Enjoy and best greetings to all,

    Alex.

Wonderful post, Alex! Well played by Binnendijk and I must say that Bach sounds quite idiomatic on the big bowlback.

    Lovely instrument too.

    Thank, you David!

The Liuto cantabile is indeed a wonderful instrument with great possibilities and we hope that composers will feel encouraged to compose for it! This particular instrument is a Calace Liuto cantabile.

    Best greetings,

    Alex.

What an inspiring performance. I've been working on this Suite on my mandocello for months and months, and I'm hopeful I can catch up with Mr. Binnendijk—in about seventy years!

I jumped ahead to the bouree, 9:10, as that is the part I am most familiar with. Just wonderful.

Then I reset and played the whole thing, on my bigger speakers in the living room. Delightful.
