doesn't surprise me, just never saw him play one

Wow. Country singer plays mandolin not very well. That's worth another new thread.
He plays quite well actually.

Awwww Come on Ron. It wasn't that bad.I agree that the mandolin part was pretty simple, but it was at least solid and tasteful.

He plays mandolin a lot better than I can sing

Vince plays mandolin rather well - check out his playing on Dan Crary's album "Lady"s Fancy"
And a pretty good golfer, I understand.Vince Gill is not just a Country singer, he is a superb guitar player and consummate musician.

Oh yes, he can play, don't worry about that. He also owns a Loar signed F5.
He plays a fine mandolin, is an outstanding guitar player, a prolific song writer and one of the best entertainers I have ever seen in person. If you ever get an opportunity to see him live; GO.
Thanks for your support?
He does perfectly fine here
He plays like he has nothing to prove. I have learned that being understated is one of the most difficult things to accomplish.
Vince Gill mandolin break near 2:30. Not too shabby in my book!

Vince Gill was rolled in cornmeal and fried in bluegrass from childhood. He's a child prodigy multi-instrumentalist who started his bluegrass music career in the band Mountain Smoke, going then to The Bluegrass Alliance, Boone's Creek and Sundance before forming the group The Pure Prairie League. So far from being a country singer trying to play mandolin, he is actually one of those rare talents who can do practically anything, was part of the "new grass" movement that included Sam Bush, Tony Rice, Ricky Scaggs, etc. and like Ricky chose to make money in the mainstream country music scene because he could and because he was golden at it. Do I sound like a fan yet?

Another talent singer that can just plain "rip" on the guitar is Brad Paisley. I'd like to see him transfer those chops to the mandolin.

I dunno. It's pretty much my bread and butter. I excel at being understated.
Hear, hear!
BTW, that fiddler sounded pretty good, too. Seems like an OK singer as well. She might be one to keep an eye on as well, like she might be able to have a pretty decent career.

Finders Keepers, my duo with the astoundingly talented and versatile Patti Rothberg. Our EP is finally done, and available! PM me, while they last!
Another project he plays a big part in is the Timejumpers along with Ranger Doug and a bunch of Nashville session musicians. They are kind of the house band at the Station Inn.
THANKS RUSS! I have always really liked Dan Crary's fluid style and don't listen to him enough! Nice to have hm brought back to the front of the list once in a while. Thanks again.

One of the most enjoyable shows I have seen was at the Wayne Henderson festival in 2014. Vince played solo, ( and very informally---shorts, shirt, and ball cap!)-- played and sang just great. He hung around the festival, no body guards, etc, cheered on some of the guitar contestants he knew, and even came out and sang tenor to my buddy Gerald Anderson:

Vince Gill started with a bluegrass band in high school--opened for KISS! He did a bluegrass tour a couple of years ago.
He also plays dobro.
Vince Gill was not a founding member of Pure Prairie League, he came to the band later.
