So far from being a country singer trying to play mandolin, he is actually one of those rare talents who can do practically anything, was part of the "new grass" movement that included Sam Bush, Tony Rice, Ricky Scaggs, etc. and like Ricky chose to make money in the mainstream country music scene because he could and because he was golden at it. BTW, that fiddler sounded pretty good, too. Seems like an OK singer as well. She might be one to keep an eye on as well, like she might be able to have a pretty decent career.

One of the most enjoyable shows I have seen was at the Wayne Henderson festival in 2014. Vince played solo, ( and very informally---shorts, shirt, and ball cap!)-- played and sang just great. He hung around the festival, no body guards, etc, cheered on some of the guitar contestants he knew, and even came out and sang tenor to my buddy Gerald Anderson:

Okay color me confused Pure Prairie League is a country rock band from 1965 (hit songs like "Amie"). Vince has played guitar with them some since 1978.

Vince Gill started with a bluegrass band in high school--opened for KISS! He did a bluegrass tour a couple of years ago.

He also plays dobro.
