Default J Bovier Video sound demos

There was up till now very little to find in the way of decent sound bites of J Bovier Mandolins, other than the few webcam recordings from owners.
I would search every now and then to see if anything new came up.

I came across these new videos, showing most of the J Bovier models, in the different finishes.
I thought it was interesting to hear the difference between the A & F, and also between Gloss and Satin. (Of course, individual mandolins will differ regardless of these things, but it is nice to get a general idea.
I think the Satin ones might have the edge on tone, at least in the tone I like most.
Probably the best sounding one is one of the A models, which was surprising.
The only model I don't see here is the F5 Special, which I have.
I would liked to have heard the F5S in gloss and then satin, just to see.
Anyhoo, just thought it was interesting to hear fairly good sound examples of a bunch of different J Boviers.
I love mine, and I am glad to know they all sound pretty darn good.

This is a good service to people considering getting a JBovier. Unless I'm mistaken that's Mr Cowherd of JBovier himself doing the playing. It's clever to play the same thing in each clip, but to be honest on my computer I can't detect much difference in sound from instrument to instrument.

I would agree that they all have a similar vibe, but I do hear differences between them.
Listening back, I like the F5 Tradition Sunburst / Gloss the best.
I would like to hear a really great player tear it up on them.

CWRoyds, Thanks for the thread demonstrating J Bovier's. I have a new one out of Jeff Cowherd's custom shop. He personalized this one for me-- set it up to my taste and specs, signed the label, and added the upgraded tailpiece. Here is my casually produced video with my review. Thank you for supporting J Bovier Mandolins!

Nice mandolin. Very "Ellis"-like sound. Play it in good health!

Yeah, I was thinking there should be the occasional SoCal/LA Mandolin tasting and jam every once in a while.
I saw threads organizing some in the past, but none recently.
I think it would be cool to get a bunch of local mandolins together, and see what y'alls axes are like.

$1200 for the F5 Tradition isn't too bad really and with a case.

My black top F5-T custom shop is a strong balanced instrument. It is maturing nicely. I have to back off to not drown out the banjo. In fairness the banjo player plays really soft, but my JB is loud.
Jeff used my musical inspiration, my Grandather's name "Elza" as the serial number. That endears the mandolin even more. My daughter decided to learn to play the mandolin hoping some day to receive te mandolin, she is 30 and a very good singer but never played an instrument.
I'm not saying it is a better instrument than my Pava Pro which has a richer more complex tone, but then the JB was a third of third cost

Sorry to be so slow to get back to you. I am all for it. I don't drive but I have the ability to go 30-40 miles with assistance. Then, DataNick lives down the road... No pressure .

Caleb Edwards, mandolin player for Fireball Mail recently acquired a J Bovier F5. I'm not sure what model. Here's a video from his YouTube channel that you may not have seen: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TkQsVPUq6ls

I think he has some more videos with the J Bovier on his channel. He's a good mandolin player and lives her in Nashville, TN.

Here's a video of me trying out a KILLER 2016 JBovier blacktop A at SPBGMA in February. Satisfying, nonetheless.
