    The pic.of the car with road salt corrosion was to show that salt & metal don't go well together - did i mention 'salt spray' ?,

    The picture of the car with road salt corrosion reminds me to go to a carwash as soon as this weekend's snowfall has melted!

    Sea salt is sodium chloride (NaCl). Road salt is potassium chloride (KCl) and is applied to roads in very high concentrations, hence its corrosive properties on metal automobile undersides.

    Hi Len - In the UK, 'road salt' is Sodium Chloride,which comes mainly from the salt mines in Winsford, close to my home town of Northwich in Cheshire. It's usually mixed with sand to create some traction on the roads,
