i am unabashedly a sierra fan,
but this album......
i think its superb, and a breakthrough for her
virtuoso , fresh, and, simply fine song writing

i can hear the worldly experience and growth, life experience of lost love, finding ones way, self doubt
it reminds me of how, as a mid teen, i didnt get Joni Mitchell, but by my mid twenties, i got it all.....

i cannot wait for my own copy, and seeing her in Denver in March.
so nice to hear a musician grow, vocally, stylistically, compositionally.

tbh I wasn't a huge fan of her music even as I dug her as a picker and a person.

But she and Fleck found a sweet formula for this sound and I like it a lot. She's local here next month!

Yeah, it is Burundi by Saul Williams, one of the other artists with a new album streaming on NPR. If you listen the the whole album with the player at the top, rather than to the individual tracks at the bottom, you will hear Weighted Mind by Sierra Hull.

The cd arrived a couple of days ago. As Martin said at the start of this thread, the album is sparse, but very rich. I liked it a lot on first listening, but I'm liking it even more the second time through. The "Black River" video showcases the most mainstream song on the album, with many other songs and tunes going way beyond major, minor, and seventh chords and scales. Hull seems to moving from Alison Krauss to Chris Thile, becoming sort of a Punch Sister. As always, her musicianship is first-rate!
