Hi to all--
I've lurked on this forum since roughly the Dawn of Time, always with the intention of creeping out of the shadows to be counted at some point. The New Year seems a good time. So this is by way of a brief and very belated introduction.
I've dabbled in all sorts of instruments, but the first step on the slippery slope was dragging my father's old mandolin in from the garage when I was ten years old. As soon as I got my hands on my first guitar--it was the '60s, after all--I unconsciously emulated Charlie Monroe by handing off the mando to my younger brother, and it was a very long time before I picked one up again. But the instrument reentered my life around 1994, and I've been at it ever since.
On mandolin I probably feel most comfortable playing Irish or old-time American material, but I have hopelessly eclectic tastes, and I'm always eager to expand my range. I've learned an enormous amount over the years from the collective offerings of this group, and in fact my main motive for de-lurking at last is simply to say Thanks.
So Thanks. And here's to future conversations.
