    Default Krishot mandolins

Anybody know anything about these? I have a chance to buy an A model for $1850. Sounds great. It's up against a Pava A which of course costs more. Both sound better to me than the Colings MT. I've never even heard of Krishot before but that means nothing

Krishot is a great mandolin. There's a guy who plays one at a local jam I attend and it sounds great. I'm looking at one that's currently on consignment at the Pickin Parlor (Arvada, CO) for around $1900.

    What year is it?

It's 1997. It's at Fiddlers Green in Austin. I'm going back there tomorrow when their mandolin guy is there. He will be able to help me decide but I figured I'd draw on the collective knowledge here too. It feels a bit bulkier than the Pava. Don't know if that's good or bad. I love the tone of both but they are different. The Pava has more overtones and the Krishot is more hollow sounding. Maybe closer to the Gibson sound. But what do I know, it's not like I ever played a Lloyd Loar.

Oh, you meant it's A 1997. My bad.

Check out Michael Giverin of "The Jaywalkers" who plays an A style, to hear how good
these mandolins are. The "Big Sciota" video is fun, and in my view shows off the very best
of old timey/bluegrass music being made in the UK today.

'Krishot' mandolins are excellent !.They're really well made & all the four that i've played (3 F's & an A), were beautiful sounding mandolins. If it 'sounds great' as you say,go for it,

    Weber F-5 'Fern'.
    Lebeda F-5 "Special".
    Stelling Bellflower BANJO
    Tokai - 'Tele-alike'.
    Ellis DeLuxe "A" style.

I found a clip from Fiddler's Green on Youtube with the very mandolin I'm considering:

The maker is Eduard Kristofek and he used to have that name on them or perhaps just a K in italic. I don't know how Krishot name came about. Made in Czekoslovakia. I've played a couple of great F5s by Kristufek.

I had not heard Jaywalkers before, who are excellent, and the Krishot mandolin on the video sounds superb.

For even more K Mando and Jaywalkers joy check out their live version of "Millstone"
    which was I believe was a mandolinist/violinist co-write.

    Mark Miller!

I was the other guy in there picking on that Passerine mandola for bout an hour straight! I wanted to tell you congratulations on that mandolin! Glad it made the flight home safely!

Enjoy that thing! It sounded most excellent! I had played it at Fiddler's a while back. Very solid instrument!

Eduard is currently building an F5 for me. Great builder, also a very nice guy. Met him just before Christmas in Prague, he had an appointment in the city, but before he went there he brought me his personal mandolin to play on and got back a few hours later!

Here's a pic of his personal mandolin.

Congratulations from me too. Sorry for joining in late, but you already took the right decission

I have a 2009 F style Krishot a Garnet F and I really love it. Actually it's the dark one in my avatar picture, waiting for the varnish to dry, when still unfinished in Eda's hands. The other one now lives in Florida.

Thanks everybody. Had a blast today with it. Waaaay better for fiddle tunes than my old mandolin.

And howdy TEvans! How funny! I guess it's a small world among mandolin enthusiasts. You sounded great pickin' in the other room!

    I'll post some pictures soon.

Whoops! Think that was my auto-correct kicking in. It was definitely a PasserniG mandola. Super awesome instrument. I have been trying to convince my wife to let me buy it all week.

You should buy it and just take that burden off of her shoulders.

Interesting. I hadn't heard of Stefan building a mandola, and can't seem to find the instrument on Fiddler's Green's website, only the #76 A5 that had sold when I called to discuss it with Ben. Can you tell us anything else about the build?
