Again, I really appreciate all the comments. I had a birthday this past Sunday, so the New Years weekend for me was great, family, friends, Pearl bluegrass jam on Saturday, and I treated myself to some new acquisitions . . .

Hi Timothy - My big problem is that over 50 + years,i've collected over 2000 Lp's of varying genres of music, most of them haven't been played for 20 years or more as CD's took over. I've simply forgotten what i've got. I did catalogue the majority of them, but after i moved house 20 years ago,& collected others,i didn't bother to catalogue them - i just need to look, which i haven't yet done,

I really love the compilation disc Bluegrass Mandolin Extravaganza. You can find it on Spotify for a listen. Has some amazing players and tunes on it. The first Old & in the Way record is also great. Fantastic cover of the Stones Wild Horses on that.
Grisman's Rounder Album

New Grass Revival's first album (same name).

Five that come to mind.

Bill Monroe plays Bluegrass instrumentals (mine was in simulated stereo)! Ivan has a shot of the cover, I think. It's a great one!

Yes, ''Bluegrass Instrumentals'' is a must, if you can find a used copy of the LP in good condition. The tracks are available on CD,but only as part of the 'Bear Family' boxed sets & i believe that the tracks are spread out on discs covering the years in which they were recorde - so no one CD contains them all. The LP contains many of the 'definitive' recordings of the tunes, inc.the best version of 'Raw Hide' Bill Monroe ever played (IMHO),

You can't really go wrong with Sam bush, but as for one album either ice peaks or circles around me. And I'd tend to ice peaks because it's more stylistically diverse. (Which is saying something)

My recommendation would be to start with Bill Keith's "Something Old, Something Newgrass, Something Borrowed, Something Bluegrass" and work outwards. The title is a bit of a mouthful but, in its day, I found it something of a revelation as it not only introduced me to Bill but also the likes of Rice, Grisman and Douglas.
I think that was the second BG album I owned! A buddy gave me that one and I gave him "Body and Soul" with James and Bill together! Our birthdays were three days apart. I learned a lot about playing music from him.
Thanks Ivan!

I have been looking to revisit my mando love (mainly a guitar guy). I went thru some of my mando heavy CD's and dug out a Johnny Young disc - The Complete Blue Horizon Sessions. What a great spin. He uses his mando as his main weapon on leads and fills. It's not just a "chop job".
Here's a review link (pardon the salty language, the reviewer is passionate)

I searched the keywords CD recommendations and suggestions. I know it's a mando blues disc in the wrong musical genre category, but felt it proper to post it in this mando recommendations thread. I know the world is filled with contradictors, not that there's any here?
