Default Hornpipe in D HWV 356 by G F Handel

arranged for mandolin, mandola and guitar (or 2 mandolins & guitar)

the video is my attempt at a straight, one take per part multitrack performance - warts and all

(Martin, I'll be round for a lesson or two!)

Sequenced recording, score and parts available on my web page.

    Very nice, Andy!

I didn't know the piece, but I see there is an urtext edition at IMSLP, for violin, viola and cello (or basso):

I have just done my own recording of your arrangement, on mandolin, tenor guitar (in GDAE) and mandocello:

    1890s Umberto Ceccherini mandolin
    Vintage Viaten tenor guitar
    Suzuki MC-815 mandocello

This is a lovely hornpipe to play on mandolin, falling nicely under the fingers (except for that surprising high D in bar 25...). Thanks for digging out the piece, and the arrangement!

I was looking through the scores at Andy's website recently and thought this Handel hornpipe looked interesting -- I didn't remember until I had finished making a new recording that I had in fact already recorded it back in 2015!

Here is the new version as a trio of mandolin, octave mandolin and mandocello.

    1898 Giuseppe Vinaccia mandolin
    Mid-Missouri M-111 octave mandolin
    Suzuki MC-815 mandocello
