A quick 10 minute film about a fellow starting out. I thought some of you might like it.

Wow! That was just a great video.Seems to be a couple of humble men with a passion for building great instruments.I certainly would enjoy learning more about them and their instruments. Thanks for posting bingoccc.

From Greg - "...I could watch this all day. Thanks! ". Me too !. I honestly wish that somebody would make a film of a luthier building a mandolin from start to finish. Apart from being instructive for other builders, watching the process & seeing the instrument emerge from mere chunks so wood,is for me,astonishing,

    That's a great idea, Ivan!
I've seen some films about making guitar from point zero to finished masterpiece, but I would love to see such a film about a mandolin creation.

I sat at our Subaru dealership on Saturday for almost two hours watching the Sheppard mandolin build (#25) on youtube. Spoiler alert, his computer that was holding the videos of the final stages died on him... but it's a great chunk of info and lots of opinions that go against the grain

In my browsing I've noticed the Sheppard and Ratliff series.

Ivan, I put together a slide show a while back showing the building of an instrument. If you're interested here's the link......... not a traditional mandolin by any means, but it's all the same techniques.

Maybe I'll make a video of the whole process of building a mandolin, and maybe I'll even edit out the glue drying, but I'm leaving all the sanding in there! (Let's see how long people are fascinated by that... )
(Oh wait, there's fast forward... never mind... no video...)

My videos would be mostly me standing around trying to figure out how to avoid mistakes I made previously, leading me to make new mistakes, and then trying to figure out how to fix the new ones.

Marty, your videos wouldn't be the only ones! But you can't video the moments you're lying in bed in the early hours and a solution to something pops up in your half awake brain. Can't film the most important 'cause they happen inside a head.

I've been planning a 6 hour epic called "it's easier cutting it off than sticking it back on."
