    Default Took the Emando Dive!

Well after a few months of MAS induced emando searching and researching I bought this here kentucky KM300E. Its an older version with an adjustable bridge, upgraded electronics to include a Bill Lawrence L-45s mini-humbucker and Strat-style plate housing. Picked it up for $285. I have a real basic crate amplifier to run it through at the moment, but I'm having fun nonetheless. Eventually I'll work on some pedals and an upgraded amplifier when I know what I'm doing more! It's way different than playing my acoustic, that's for sure!

Here's a video of me playing it, enjoy and let me know what your thoughts are about this thing and some playing advice or whatever comes to mind!

Agreed, but most important is the making music & enjoying it.

Although a lot of other musicians I know think my Mandobird is cool.
Would it save you a lot of time if I just gave up and went mad now?

This is kinda interesting, as the people I play with were excited to see I got one...but now I'm not sure they were being genuine! haha
I definitely have a lot of room to grow on this thing. All of the accessories to create different sounds are a little overwhelming also.

What did you play with these friends before you got the emando? And what are they playing? Electric instruments? It'll take some time to figure out how to fit in with your friends. Also M_Z, think like a guitarist while playing a 4 string electric mandolin. The single strings sound more guitar-like than mandolin-like to my ears and I found that getting that guitarist mindset really helped back at the time. I've since switched to 8 string electric and really like how well it blends with guitars, mainly a ES-335, a Telecaster and A/E Takamine rockin' on a Tom Petty tune.

Glad you're having fun with it. I picked up that amp that we discussed Friday. I'll probably be cutting one of the two loose after the holidays. Stop by and check it out if you get a chance.

Has a nice warm tone, good choice. But wait until you get it going through a couple of pedals - you won't be playing carols then!!

It is! And it's definitely like playing a different instrument. I'm now torn when I head to my little music station in the house...which mandolin do I pick up? If my wife is asleep, I have to go acoustic...but if not, its the e-mando. I'm really enjoying picking on some holiday tunes with this thing. The melodies are pretty easy to play and you can really create some interesting sounds with the e-mando. I picked up a simple digital amp for $40 (a peavy vypyr 15w), its got all kinds of built in effects. #reallyenjoyingit!

Congrats on your new E-Mando. I have the basic KM-300 and I think, due to the position of the pickup, it sounds a little more mellow than a Mandostrat.
I play mine cleanly with only a hint of slapback delay and reverb most of the time, but every once in a while, I just can't resist and hit the distortion pedal:

If my wife is asleep, I have to go acoustic...but if not, its the e-mando.
For me, it's the other way round: if I don't want to bother anyone, I play my E-mando sans amplifier.

I was looking at that one as well ...
Sounds like I missed a good one, I am happy to get to hear it at least (and happy that you really enjoy it, too).

That musical montage takes the shaker or Hoss didn't know Little Joe. And a sound demonstration of effective electric tremolo. Thanks for stringing it together.
