Well, DavidH asked me if I was going to see NC here at the Warfield on April 10th. That got me to thinking ...

For anyone else who's going - or even if you're not - I thought I would offer to host a pre-concert meet-n-greet / pickin' party beforehand. The show is on a Saturday, and I live right downtown, fairly close to the venue.

    Anyone else up for it?

Correction: NC show is April 10, @ 8PM, according to the band's website.

Possibly... it'd be fun to hear you guys play, anyhow! My playing with others skills are kinda... um... crappy LOL So I'm not sure if you would actually want me to pick with ya

    What time are you thinkin?

    'Creekster,
Join in! Just call a tune you know, and we'll play it the speed you want.

As far as time goes, I'm open ended. I doubt that there will be many of us, so we can make things up as we go along.

Yeah, Heather. This would be a great opportunity to finally get to pick together. I'm very much an amateur, but I'm eager to play more with others. I don't have the benefit of going to those multi-day music camps like you. #

We can do St. Annes Reel and Red Haired Boy, right? I'm sure Benig can show us a few tunes!

Benig, don't you play a Weber too? Heather and I both have Yellowstones. I'm very curious to check out Heather's mando.

I got a floor ticket, by the way.

I just ordered my tix ... floor is the only way to go at the Warfield. Upstair gets lousy sound.

As far as pre-pickin' goes ... I have no issues with playing St. Anne's reel a dozen or more times at like 60bpm ... that is, I'll play whatever and have fun doing it.

Also, I'm really curious how my 'Wannabe-Jellystone' compares to the real deal. From some other recent threads I've begun to think mine might be more like a Yellowstone than a stock Bitterroot.

I can't go to the show but would love to come over to the City to play and meet some mandolinists prior.

Keep the post running as we get closer.

DavidH dropped me PM just checking to see if I'm still shooting to have some pickers over before the show ... Yes!

So, drop me a line if you want and I'll set up the particulars.

Will do, I just got my ticket in the mail yesterday. WooHoo!

So ... I guess I have three weeks to clean up around here?
Now the question is ... what time should we meet up? What flavor of pizza/chinese/thai should we order, etc.

    Upping this one again . . .

How does 3-ish sound? We could meet, greet and pick for 2-3 hrs, then eat, then go to the show.

I'm open to any of the food flavors you mentioned, but I'm a sucker for Thai. Love that curry/coconut milk and peanut sauce.

Why does 'Crazy Train' come to mind? Becuase you know me too well! LOL!

OK ... DavidH woke me up with a reminder than the show is this weekend, and I haven't told y'all where I live, or how to call me, etc.

So I dropped some PMs to you folks up above. If anyone's a got a last minute hankerin' to join in ... please drop me a PM, and I'll get you all the info. I really think it's only a few of us, but hey, that's enough people to pick some tunes and eat some chow and enjoy a good concert.

    Sucess!

By which I mean, three of us got together, picked some tunes, told some stories, and had and all around great time ... just me, DavidH, and fmspinc passing fiddles tunes around for a few hours. Frank's Stivett mando is incredible! ... as is David's Jellystone. I got an answer to my question; My Bitterroot does sound a lot like a Jellystone, but is nowhere near as pretty!

I thinks it's great how three guys can come together for an afternoon and cover quite a lot of musical ground by having worked over a lot of a the same tunes. It's one the main things I like about the OT fiddle tunes, and BG music.

The NC show was awesome. Mindy Smith was great. Divid spied Lil'Creekster positioned squarely in the front row and offered the comment, "Where else?" The highlight for me was the acoustic encore, especially when Glen Phillips came out to play with them ... though I'm still embrassed that I didn't immediately recognize him until the moment he sang a note, and I thought,"Oh! That Glen!" They annouced that NC recorded an album with Glen several years ago that is finally slated for release this July. Yea!

I say, "Let's do this all again!", as it was easy and fun.

I'm so sorry I missed it!! I ended up going with a big group of people in a carpool and couldn't get up there that early I'm glad you guys had fun though!! Will have to catch some pickin with y'all at some point... sounds like a good time!

Great show, as usual, they really captivated the whole audience (no small feat in SF in a crowd that big!) My favorite moment was Chris's super simple solo (like, quarter or half notes? LOL) followed by the rockstar impression. That was perfect hehe. Seeing glen & hearing them together again was a HUGE treat, only made sweeter by the announcemnt that the long awaited MAS cd is coming (ABOUT TIME!!!)

Scotch & Chocolate (that first opening song) was a sweeeet new instrumental. Can't wait to get a live show with that on it. "Doubting Thomas" was my other fave new one (first song 1st encore) I was bummed to not hear Itzinay, but they made up for it, for sure.

They really are touring a ton this year, if you get a chance, don't miss it!

An excellent time! Thanks Benig for being such a great host. The awkwardness of meeting and picking with people for the first time lasted all of about 2 minutes, for me anyway. After that, I felt as though we'd been pickin' buddies for years.

Nickel Creek was on fire. The energy and passion they exude is infectious.
