    Default Thanks Button?

How many of you posters take notice of the thanks comment button presses in your posts. (Just a thought)?

(SORRY POSTED IN THE WRONG AREA)!!!

It's nice to be thanked as its good to thank when someone's said something useful or funny.

The thanks comment is like that "Yeahhh" in the House of Commons. That is, it is a beautiful noise to hear (see) on your own posts, and it can be an indicator of who sides with whom in a dispute. But it is not reliable. Absence of thanks does not mean dislike, thanks can mean somebody misunderstood your post and applauds for the wrong reason...

It is, though, a reliable indicator for or against your own independence of thought - observing your own posts and watching for thanks says more about yourself than about those others. As the Jedi say: search your feelings.

I use it all the time its a way to "pile on" with your "side" in a discussion with out getting your keyboard dirty in a contentious "discussion"! LOL!

I'm waiting for the next phase when the MC will start to count up your total number of "thanks" and then divide that by your total number of posts to get your "attaboy" or "attagirl" ratio.

Every forum should have a thanks-giving day (ha ha), wherein everyone clicks the thanks button (or equivalent) on every post.
Not only would this engender good feelings amongst the posters, it would also test the forum software and hardware for weaknesses.

I propose that American Thanksgiving Day also be National Click-your-thanks Day. I look forward to helping you all stress-test Mandolin Cafe. And thanks!

It is a feature I like and use often. I frequently 'thank' posts I appreciate or agree with. I think it can help to foster the congenial atmosphere we have in this on-line community, which is something I really value.

    Hey G7MOF,
As you can see, I just used it.

Think It makes a lot of sense as a quick sign of acknowledgement or respect...

There could be more buttons for frequent standard posts, such as
    - the Popcorn button
    - the Your-spelling-is-faulty button
    - the Works-for-me button
    - the Doesn't-work-for-me button
    - the Ain't-no-part-of-nuthin button
    - the I'll-be-at-the-festival/show-too button
    - ...

Lowering the load on the Cafe servers by 60% I reckon

I assume it's intended as a way of thanking people for information etc. without cluttering up the board with a full post saying exactly the same thing - at least that's how I use it.

A few days back, no matter what I posted, somebody would later paraphrase my post. Then they would get the "Thanks" and I would not.

I get that a lot. Translators must make a living, too. It was one of the factors that led me to believe that good thoughts have no real owner, just like other good things: the wind and the sun and the rain. It's at the bottom of my signature line.

I try to thank anyone who expresses agreement with me, or quotes me.

Also the very-much-appreciated Cafe´members who catch me up, when I've said something stupid -- or provided misinformation. Happens.

Please carry on with this titillating conversation about a feature that has been in plain sight and used widely for years.

The worst is when I 'Thank' someone and moments later a moderator (or worse yet, the site owner) reams them for their ignorant post.
